02/12 Thank you, Thomas Reichart
He didn’t reserve, crossing entrance door he didn’t look all the mess we have in reception in these days and he come directly to me.
I was very happy to this unexpected visit so I gave him my welcome. Thomas asked me a room, two nights. I explained hotel was under maintenance for some days, restaurant was closed and everything in reception dirty and noisy.
He didn’t matter.
Two nights, eh? So I opened the new Hotel’s depliant, fresh of printing, and I put room key on his photo, the photo I most love of all Etna photos I’ve ever seen and which he offered us some time ago.
Thomas Reichart had been betrayed by the volcano he loved.

I am deeply saddened to hear about this tragedy. Thomas’ photos of Etna will always remain a beautiful tribute to a brave and brilliant photographer.

I was very shocked, when I heard about his dead. I couldn’t believe it. He was so experienced and always well equipped. I only had contact with him by e-mail. I remember the big fun we had, during the evening of May 10th 2008, when SEC had the last big eruption. We mailed each other all the time, talked about the things we saw on the webcams and speculated about what will happen next. We wished so to be there and to climb Mount Etna on this evening. Now it’s too late and I will never be able to do an excursion with Thomas. What happened to him could have happened also to me and it’s a wake-up call to be even more careful. I love this mountain, its beautiful nature and the power of the eruptions. Thomas captured all this in his fantastic photos. I will miss him and his photos very much! Ciao, Thomas…
When I got wind of some news that Thomas Reichart died on Mount Etna, I was like “Oh no!” and couldn’t believe it. I was sad to hear what had happened. I had never met him in person but we were in touch on numerous occasions on the internet and he came across to me as an intelligent and genuinely nice guy who took lots of amazing photographs around the world, I admired his work and took inspiration from him. He suggested to me that one day we might meet up on Etna which I’m sure would’ve been exciting because he knew more about Etna than I did so he could’ve took me to all the wonders of Etna like the Alcantara, the Grottas, etc. But sadly, it will never happen now.
May he rest in peace in heaven.

Oh my god.. I just read this news. He had become my metaphysical link to Etna, when I couldn’t go there myself. He was amazing in his passion and love and persistence to spend time with volcanoes, especially Etna. I am so shocked and so sad by this news. And very sorry for his family and friends.
